Where to store patio furniture and cushions

Leaving your patio furniture and cushions unprotected can lead to damage so you are doing the right thing if you are planning to store them. But there are some things to take into consideration. Like where to store them? Maybe you don’t have enough room in your garden shed or you just don’t know if it’s okay to leave them outside during rainy days. Well, you came to the right place, because in this article we will be covering this topic.

Where to store patio cushions?

There are lots of options but I will be covering the most effective ones. There will also be some tips included so make sure to read to the end. You should store your patio cushions whenever you are not using them on a daily basis!

-In a patio cushion box

The first and most obvious option is to store your patio cushions in a cushion box. They are really cheap nowadays and can store many things along with your cushions. I’ve just bought one myself recently because you benefit so much from it. Another great thing about them is that they come in so many colors, sizes, and designs that it is practically impossible for you not to find a fitting one for your garden.

-In your garden shed

The second option might also seem pretty obvious but there sure are a few facts that you should know before you put patio cushions in your shed. You will want to make sure that they are not sitting directly on the ground, because the floor in your shed might get wet. If the moisture from the floor reaches the cushions (and trust me, it will if you have them directly on the ground) then they will start to mildew and that is definitely something that you do not want to happen.

So if you are planning on storing them in your gardening shed, please make sure that they are not touching the ground. There is another thing that you should know. Animals WILL come inside your shed and ruin your cushions if you do not protect them. This is why I still think that a cushion box is the best possible option out there for the job. But if you still went with the second option then I highly suggest that you pack them in a bag or something else.

-Indoors

If you don’t own a garden shed or a cushion box, then the obvious option is to store them indoors. It is highly important to keep your cushions protected from any weather that will damage them. They are far more delicate than your patio furniture and should therefore also be cared for better.

-Leave them on your patio chairs

What? But I have just said that it is necessary to store them whenever you are not using them? Well yes, but there is one exception. If you own a patio furniture cover that fits your furniture set, it is okay to leave them on your chairs and cover then cover them with your cover.

IMPORTANT!

It is really important that you store your cushions outside of the reach of direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can do damage to your cushions and therefore you should avoid it. Another thing to be careful about is when you should store your patio cushions. I highly recommend that you keep them stored until you need them and only then take them out. Whenever you are not needing them you should put them back to protect them and make them last much longer.

Where to store your patio furniture?

When it comes to storing your furniture, it can sometimes be left unprotected, unlike your cushions. The main reason why you should want to store your patio furniture is the weather. If there are any chances of rain, snow, etc. then you should definitely store or at least just cover your furniture. The 2 most delicate materials are definitely wood and rattan. If your furniture is made out of either one of them, then you should do your best to protect it.

-In your garden shed

That is of course if you have one. Make sure to store or at least cover it if there is a chance of rain, snow, frost, etc.

-Indoors

You can also store your patio furniture indoors and maybe even use it as indoor furniture, but there is one thing that you should be really careful about. Sometimes the legs of your patio chairs and/or table are not protected and will, therefore, damage your indoor floor, especially if you have either parquet or laminate. In this case, make sure that you get proper leg pads for your furniture.

-In your garage

This is a good but also a bad option because as you may know, people tend to store too much stuff in their garages and end up with a big room of junk.

You can also leave your patio furniture outside in some cases but be careful to cover it before any possible rain, snow, frost, etc. If you do not own a cover then a plastic foil should do the work, but it gets annoying having to wrap it every single time.

IMPORTANT

If your outdoor furniture is made out of plastic then I would highly recommend that you store it before any possible storm, because it is really light-weight and wind can blow it away or just send it to your neighbor’s yard. Either way, a thing that you do not want to happen.

Conclusion:

You can store your patio cushions and furniture in your shed if you have one, in your garage, indoors, or just leave them out but only if you have a cover to cover them every single day. The two most delicate materials are wood and rattan so if you are using either one of them then you should really pay more attention to storing your patio furniture on time. Any delays might end up in damage to your furniture.
